The most common rat that invades homes and businesses in Connecticut is the Norway Rat. Norway rats originally came to America in the 1700s on ships from Europe. Norway Rats are bigger than roof rats, weighing in at over a pound when they reach adulthood. Norway Rats live in colonies in ground tunnels. Norway Rats droppings (poop) measure ¾ of an inch and their urine has a strong ammonia smell. They are a very destructive and unhealthy pest to have invade your home or business.
