Preventing Mice and Rats During Cold Weather

This time of year, as the weather in Connecticut starts turning cooler mice and rats come inside looking for shelter and a place to stay during the cold months.  Here are some things you can do to prepare to keep mice out and rats out.  A little preparation on your part can help in not getting a mouse infestation or a rat infestation in your home or business.

  • Clean up any brush or refuse around your building.
  • Seal up any holes or openings around the foundation of the building including gutter downspouts.
  • Make sure lids are on all garbage cans securely.
  • Clean any food, such as crumbs and the like.
  • Organize – a clean place makes it easier to see when a mouse problem or rat problem is starting.
  • Set traps even if you don’t have rodents now – this will help in finding activity if there is any.

Doing these things will help in eliminating or at worst minimizing any mouse infestation or rat infestation you may get during the colder months in Connecticut.
