Like house mice, deer mice will contaminate your food and or water supply with germs by being in contact with it.  The main sickness that deer mice are known to carry is the Hantavirus, which is a flu-like virus that can cause breathing problems, and in some cases result in death.  Other viruses the deer mouse in Connecticut carry are:  Plague, Tularemia, Leptospirosis, and Salmonellosis.

White Footed Mice in Connecticut

The white footed mouse in Connecticut is hard to tell apart from the deer mouse, but there are some slight differences.  The white footed mouse and the deer mouse both have white feet, but the deer mouse’s feet are slightly smaller than the white footed mouse.  The white footed mouse is about the same size as a deer mouse.  Their coloring is virtually the same.  The only difference is that the upper fur on a white footed mouse blends in with the white underbelly, whereas on a deer mouse the two different colors are more defined.  The white footed mouse in Connecticut eats Berries, nuts, seeds, grains, fruit, insects, and even fungi.
